Stop the Merger Monster

If you aren't scared about the merger of AT&T and BellSouth, you should be.

This merger will create the largest telecommunications company in the world and will create a nationwide monopoly, stretching from California to Florida, controlling the largest local and long distance phone company, the largest wireless company, the largest broadband company, and the largest Internet company in the nation. The "new AT&T," if allowed to buy BellSouth, will control nearly half of the phone lines into homes and businesses in the country.

Chances are, you will be at the mercy of AT&T. Help stop the merger monster before it gets too big to control.

About this new coalition, Mark Cooper, Director of Research, Consumer Federation of America said:

"It is only by shedding light on these anti-consumer, anti-competitive mergers and getting the people involved that we have any hope of creating a consumer-friendly competitive marketplace. The courts have noticed that approving these mergers may not be in the public interest. Maybe a public outcry will wake the regulatory and antitrust agencies up."
